Caulfield Sprint
The Caulfield Sprint, commonly referred to as the Thai Airways International Sprint, is a Group Two Australian horserace. Held at the Caulfield Racecourse, the Caulfield Sprint takes place on the illustrious 2012 Caulfield Cup Day, and as such forms part of the highly regarded Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. The 1100 metre event is worth $200,000 in prizemoney and is held for horses under open handicap conditions.
Traditionally the Caulfield Sprint draws in the stronger spring sprinters, with the staying types more attracted to the headlining Caulfield Cup. Attracting such a strong crowd means a horse familiar with the precise distance often succeeds. Also taking place on Caulfield Cup Day is the $2.5 million Group One Caulfield Cup (2400m), the Group Two Tristarc Stakes (1400m), the Group Three Norman Robinson Stakes (2000m), the Group Three David Jones Cup (2000m) and the Group Three Monga Stakes (1400m).
