The Group 2 Caulfield Sprint is due to run at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne on Saturday October 15, 2011.
The race is run as part of the action-filled Caulfield Cup Day and takes place alongside the Group 1 Caulfield Cup, Group 2 Tristarc Stakes, Group 3 Norman Robinson Stakes, Group 3 David Jones Cup and Group 3 Moonga Stakes.
The 2011 Caulfield Sprint is worth $200,000 in prize money and is run under handicap conditions.
The 1,100 metre race is often contested by horses that are looking to go on towards the Group 2 Schweppes Stakes at Moonee Valley Racecourse one week later or to the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic on Emirates Stakes Day on November 5, 2011.
Peter Snowden’s impressive galloper Sepoy is scheduled to run in the 2011 Caulfield Sprint horse racing field following his impressive Group 1 Manikato Stakes victory last Friday night.
The three-year-old colt continued his imposing winning streak in the $500,000 Manikato Stakes after also winning both the Listed Vain Stakes and the Group 2 Danehill Stakes earlier this preparation.
The Golden Slipper winner, who also won all three legs of the Blue Diamond Series during the autumn, will run in the 2011 Caulfield Sprint on his way to the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes on October 29, 2011.
“Winning a Group One in front of the boss on Derby Day, for me, is better than beating Black Caviar,” Snowden said after Sepoy’s Manikato Stakes win.
“(The Manikato Stakes) was a tremendous win. He did it the hard way, but it shows what a tremendous horse he is.
“I was very worried about the wet conditions and his only defeat was on a wet track, but he was underdone that day… this proves he’s a great horse.”
